Abstract

Childhood medicalization comes from one of the explanatory models of medicine centered on disease or drugs, widely used for the therapeutic approach of the individual. In this context, an important example is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) due to a strong pharmacological demand in medical treatment in early childhood. The psychic, emotional and environmental perspectives that can influence the evolution of the disease are commonly underestimated. A more in-depth analysis of the family's view on the development and follow-up of children with ADHD is necessary at the present time. We seek to analyze the perception of parents of children diagnosed with ADHD about medicalization and its possible physiological, psychological and social consequences for their children.
