Abstract

The air conditioning of residential environments has been growing over the last few years and with that, assessing whether an air conditioning installation is operating as expected is extremely important. Therefore, this study aims to determine the thermal efficiency of air conditioning equipment on a didactic bench. To calculate the thermal efficiency of an air conditioner, it is necessary to determine the mass of recirculated air in the evaporator and the variation of enthalpy between the inlet and outlet. Therefore, a digital anemometer, digital psychrometer, and measuring tape were used, in addition to the didactic bench that has a window-type air conditioner with a nominal thermal capacity of 7,500 Btu/h, as informed by the manufacturer. The results showed that the recirculated air mass was 580 kg/h and the enthalpy variation was 3.1 kcal/kg, obtaining an actual heat capacity of 1,798 kcal/h. Thus, it was found that the thermal efficiency of the air conditioning unit of the didactic bench was approximately 5% lower than the value informed by the manufacturer.
